Faith Formation

At St. John, we believe that faith formation is a lifelong process that never ends. God calls us to be constantly learning and growing, in order to love God and our neighbors as best we can. As such, we offer ongoing opportunities for members of all ages to learn alongside others in Christian community.

Godly Play

Preschool-3rd Grade

Godly Play is a Montessori-style learning environment focused on the needs of children at this place on life’s journey. The Godly Play approach teaches classical Christian language in a way that enhances the child’s authentic experience of God. Our teachers ask questions, wondering aloud about stories and ideas, and encourage creative play.

We invite Godly Play students to attend worship with their families until the Time for the Child in All of Us, and then go to their classroom to meet their teachers for the day's lesson.

While COVID-19 restrictions were in place, our Godly Play teachers recorded their lessons. These lessons are still available on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/stjohnuccfreeport/videos so that children and families can watch and discuss them together. These videos can be found by searching "Godly Play."

Whirl

4th-8th Grade

Whirl is a multi-age classroom that uses a curriculum by Sparkhouse to teach Bible stories and continue children’s growth in faith. This class encourages children to ask questions, interpret Scripture in community, and connect with God and one another, using videos that follow the Whirl characters' adventures.

We invite Whirl students to attend worship with their families until the Time for the Child in All of Us, and then go to their classroom to meet their teachers for the day's lesson.

Spiritual Nurture for Adults

St. John offers opportunities for adults to gather in community, growing in faith and studying topics of interest. Educational opportunities and meeting times vary. Please contact us to learn about what groups are currently meeting.
